Second / Third Nautical Officer

The 2nd Officer on a vessel of E.R. Schiffahrt undertakes the tasks of the Officer in charge of navigational watch, both at sea and in port. He is also responsible for the maintenance of and care for all navigational equipment including maritime charts and nautical publications.

As directed by the Master and/or the Company, the 2nd Officer is responsible for planning the vessel's voyages, with due consideration of all prevailing circumstances and all relevant national and international law, rules and regulations.

The 3rd Officer likewise performs the duties of the Officer in charge of a navigational watch at sea and in port. Furthermore, in his capacity as safety officer, he is responsible for ensuring that the vessel's fire fighting, rescue and safety equipment is ready for use at all times. He organizes and conducts safety drills on board as required by the Master / Company.
