E.R. Schiffahrt names PSV “E.R. Georgina” with 100 guests in Oslo

Hamburg, Germany, 3 May 2010. The Hamburg shipowner E.R. Schiffahrt named the UT 776 CD-type platform supply vessel “E.R. Georgina” on 1 May 2010 in the Port of Oslo, Norway. This is the eighth ship to be built at the Norwegian STX shipyard for the shipping company’s offshore activities, which started in 2006. Six of these platform supply vessels (PSVs) are UT 755 LN-type ships with a deck area of 680 square metres. The “E.R. Georgina” and its sister ship the “E.R. Athina” are larger in size with a deck area of 1,000 square metres. All eight PSVs were developed and equipped with key components by Rolls-Royce.

With the handover of the “E.R. Georgina”, the last ship in the current PSV order book, the E.R. Offshore fleet consists of 11 PSVs in use and six anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS) under construction. That makes the company one of the largest offshore shipowners in Germany. Further fleet expansion is planned in the future.

“Bringing forward the diversification of our fleet structure in good time was the right decision. Our commitment has been worthwhile and the offshore ships are in service all over the world for international oil and gas companies,” said Erck Rickmers, Chairman of E.R. Schiffahrt, at the naming ceremony in Oslo. Over 100 guests celebrated the naming of the new ship, which will set sail on its maiden voyage to Aberdeen, Scotland, in a few days’ time to take up supply duties in the North Sea from there. Like its sister ship the “E.R. Athina”, the “E.R. Georgina” was named by a member of shipowner Erck Rickmers’s family.

Platform supply vessels are specialised high-tech ships. They ensure supplies between land bases and drilling and extraction platforms at sea by shipping drilling equipment, fresh water, food, fuel, cement and spare parts.
